The traditional design practice for housing is challenging in an uncertain changing context. Currently, Pune is growing city and demanding flexible affordable housing. It is due to rapid rise in population and migration of people from varied and distinct cultural backgrounds. In this paper the concept of flexibility is discussed and examined from the theoretical as well as practical point of view. This study also identifies the addressees of flexible design viz. architectural layout, structural systems, service spaces and flexible interior furnishing. This research suggests strategies like additiondeletion, neutralization and joining-segregation that ensure both the adaptability of the space in response to changing usage and affordability.
